City, tribal officials plan June 3 meeting on warehouse project
|
|
The City of Palm Springs and Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians will hold a joint public meeting June 3 to discuss a proposed 2.85 million-square-foot warehouse complex planned for tribal land in north Palm Springs. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Driving the news: The developer requested additional time to address technical issues, according to a city media advisory released Thursday. The June date also gives the public and city staff more time to review project and environmental documents.
The big picture: The Desert Mountain View Business Park would span 217 acres of tribal trust land west of Tipton Road, between Interstate 10 and Highway 111, featuring four warehouse buildings ranging from 248,000 to over 1.1 million square feet.
- Shopoff Realty Investments is developing the project under a long-term ground lease with the tribe, which serves as the lead agency and will make the final decision.
Why it matters: The meeting allows residents to provide feedback directly to the Tribal Council, though the city's role is limited because the project sits on tribal trust land.
Flashback: In December, the City Council adopted a conformity report after more than 20 residents spoke against the project, citing concerns about truck traffic, air pollution and desert landscape disruption.

If you use this parking lot at at West Alejo Road and Belardo Road, you'll want to note that it's temporarily closing later this month. |
|
🚧 City parking lot to close for improvements
- A city-owned parking lot at West Alejo Road and Belardo Road — serving nearby businesses including Koffi, Chicken Ranch, and Just Fabulous, plus a Catholic church across the street — will close Jan. 26 through Feb. 1 for repaving and safety improvements.
- The lot has been deteriorating for several years, making it difficult to identify legitimate parking spaces. "No parking" signs will be posted before construction begins.
- Bottom line: The improvements aim to clarify parking spaces and enhance overall safety and usability of the lot.
